Single Women and Female Couples

There is now much more societal awareness and acceptance of options for single women and women in a same-sex relationship who want to become a mother. Single women may not be in a relationship with a man that they would choose to be the father of their children or may wish to remain single by choice. Such single women can experience tremendous pressure to choose between waiting to meet someone who they would choose as their partner or to pursue single motherhood.

Single women and women in same-sex relationships may also worry about whether there will be a fertility clinic that will assist them without subjecting them to judgment(s) about their personal situation or that they may attend a clinic only to be told that the clinic will not offer them treatment. At Bubtree, fertility care is about caring for you, and for your partner if you are in a relationship. Our goal is to offer personally tailored fertility care to every patient we see, regardless of your relationship status or orientation.

With technological and societal changes there are now a number of options available to such women. These include

  • using donor sperm
  • egg freezing
  • assessing ovarian reserve (your pool of available eggs) by means of a simple blood test that measures Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH or the "egg timer test")

Women may wish to consider egg freezing if they aren't currently in a position to have children, and they want to preserve their fertility, or if they have to undergo medical treatments such as chemotherapy that could affect their fertility.

Bubtree and Monash IVF only use sperm donors that comply with Australian legislation. This means that the details of donors are kept on a register so that later in life children born as a result of using donor sperm will be able to access information about their donor.
