Private Health Cover and IVF

Private Health Cover and IVF

Private health insurance covers medical expenses that are incurred whilst you are admitted to an accredited private hospital or day surgery unit.

If your health fund confirms they will cover fertility treatment costs, you may receive a rebate from your health fund for the following;

  • Hospital/Day Surgery expenses including bed fee and theatre fee
  • A portion of the anaesthetist fee
  • A portion of the fertility specialist fee
  • If you have extras pharmacy cover, the cost of medication not included in your IVF cycle fees

Depending upon you private health fund and your level of cover, you may be advised by your fund that you need to pay an excess (co-payment) when admitted to hospital. If this applies to you, you will be required to pay to the hospital a certain amount of money on admission, and your private health fund will pay the balance directly to the hospital.

It is very important for you to contact your private health fund to clarify if your insurance covers fertility treatment, whether any waiting period before fertility/inpatient coverage has expired and if you will need to pay an excess when admitted to hospital/a day surgery unit.
